We're Passionate about Student Travel
Willy has been passionate about student travel since he began teaching in 2001. He has traveled with students around the world, taking them out of their comfort zone both physically and mentally, presenting them with new perspectives. His travel programs create what he calls “moments” that fully immerse students in cultural experiences off the beaten path. They are transformational, often changing the course of a student's life in college and beyond. Never wanting to sacrifice authenticity of local villages or the adventure of excursions, it became evident early on in Willy’s career that he had to mitigate the many risks associated with travel. In 2005 he helped found the Global Education Benchmark Group (GEBG) to join others with the same mission and share best practices in order to create stronger, safer and more impactful global programs.

The GEBG members discussed many ways to manage student travel logistics. Travel leaders were consistent in trying to improve ways to handle the mounds of paperwork they lugged around, how to handle lost cell service or students passports and managing medical emergencies. Perpetual improvement of these best practices has been the goal of Willy and the GEBG team since day 1. VERVET was born from this same mission.
In the past two decades, it has become increasingly more difficult to navigate travel with the antiquated format of paperwork. Medication lists, dietary restrictions and accommodations have increased at the same time travel programs have become more popular resulting in more students. Safety is the top priority of global educators. Vervet targets this aim with a promise to continue perpetual improvement of best practices alongside the schools and the people it supports.
